Jane and Andrew Spicer, and family.
The Real Thing
Spicer Tiles was established in 1989, soon after the mini hurricane that occurred in the South of England a few months earlier.
A small, but expanding family company formed by us-Jane and Andrew Spicer- to produce genuine hand-made peg tiles and fittings.
As all of our products are genuinely hand-made, we can readily manufacture special shapes and colours to suit a particular job.
Hand manufacture ensures that each Spicer Tile is individual, and bears the subtle variations of size, colour and texture of tiles that have been made in the same traditional way since the Middle Ages.
Using the finest natural materials, the earthy colours are impregnated into the clay before it is hand pressed into hard wood moulds; the surplus struck off with an ash bow.Knocked out to dry, the peg holes are made with a wooden stick.
In conservation areas planners demand that new buildings blend with their surroundings.
The textured surface of each Spicer tile promotes active weathering and the growth of lychen.
We set very high standards for our products. That is why our tiles and fittings are easy to cut, don't crumble, have permanent fired colours and have a good shape and feel. It may take a roofer to recognize these finer points but the result is less wastage and less aggravation.
We are proud to say that our tiles have been used on listed buildings, museums, churches, schools, pubs and even a bus shelter!
Not mentioning the Hard Rock Café in London. Our tiles are recommended by local councils and architects, peace of mind for he perspective buyer.
Spicer Tiles will certainly give our customers good value for money and will be sure that you will appreciate the end result.
